PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The
purpose of this class is to study airline management and service,
in-flight, or on the ground. These services or lack thereof relate to
success or failure in the eyes of the consumer and hence in this
turbulent industry. The course centers on case studies and guest
speakers from major airlines. Each day brings a new chapter in aviation
history as many "legacy" airlines approach bankruptcy and new carriers
emerge. There are frequent changes in service, management structure,
strategy, CEOs, size of aircraft, and stations (cities) served. The
economics and service impacts of these changes are thoroughly examined.
The old
model of airline management is broken. The new paradigm is based upon
low cost domestic carriers that deliver passengers to destinations with
seamless service. Internationally, incomparable, overwhelmingly
excellent or novel service is critical. A field trip to a New York City
airline command center and a visit to an airline catering company are
required
